The GTO:
This all original and spotless 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible with its correct YS high performance coded 400cui V8 and TH400 automatic transmission under the hood. It's painted in its rare and factory original L1 code Marina Turquoise Metallic paint in combination with the beautiful and factory correct code 224 Parchment interiors and convertible top.
The below pictures don't do this rare color combination justice, you just have to see this car live! This car is the REAL DEAL and not a changed over Pontiac Le Mans, as so many you see are today. With the car's special options and in this amazing color combination and it beeing still completely original in all its parts and details, we estimate it's one of maybe a handful left today.
There’s something about looking down the expansive snout of the GTO convertible that brings back scenes from Hunter S Thompson’s outrageous Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Hunter may not have been in a GTO, but somehow you can picture yourself floating down the interstate, dressed in your loudest Hawaiian shirt, with your Samoan attorney in the passenger seat for company.
Snap out of it, and what we have here is a 1967 Pontiac GTO that very much fits into the American muscle car playbook. The series first saw life in 1964 and immediately became infamous when a magazine road test recorded an incredible quarter- mile time of 12.8 seconds. Many years later, a company employee admitted the car had anything but a standard engine.
Skullduggery aside, by 1967 the series had undergone numerous mods. Compared to a family sedan, it boasted stiffer suspension to aid the handling, though we’re still thinking ‘land yacht cruiser’ rather than ‘sports car’ in this case. Which is fair enough, as this car has far too much age and size to try something undignified like mixing it with the WRXs through the local set of twisties.
Under the hood you score a 400-cube (6.5 litre) V8 fed by a four-barrel Rochester Quadrajet and claiming a not-so-dignified 335 horses which was highly underrated by GM as many car journalists and reviews stated the car must have had close to 400 real hp. It might be a big car, but that’s enough grunt to shift it along at a decent pace. That lot is backed up by a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic (TH-400) auto with a Hurst ‘His & Hers’ shifter.
This car must have had a remarkable history, with just two owners. The last owner had the car for close to 40 years and performed some milder restoration works over those years, keeping this more or less survivor car in great condition all that time. But what you see here is overall an untouched body and chassis car with all the metal on it still the way it came from the factory over 50 years ago, which is amazing these days.
Overall, this car presents well and seems to do pretty much what you’d expect. PTTM will perform a complete check up and will improve the car at some important details, but otherwise this gorgeous GTO is absolutely in great and original shape.
KNOW YOUR GTOs
The first GTO series of 1964 was an option package from the Tempest series, available in two-door coupe, hardtop and convertible. Standard fitment was a 389ci (6 litre) V8 claiming 325 horsepower. A number of dealer-made Bobcat specials were built, with an additional 30-50 horsepower. The series was restyled and made three inches longer (on the same wheelbase) for 1965. While the 389 engine was tuned for 335hp. Auto was standard, but you could order a four-speed manual. A major restyle was introduced in 1966 and the GTO became its own product line. The underlying mechanical package remained much the same.
By 1967, the range had a minor facelift but was given a mechanical refresh, including the 400ci powerplant and TH-400 transmission. The car you see here has the optional high performance 400-4bbl engine ( YS code block) under the hood as were many also had the much lower and output 2 bbl carb versions (260hp) installed, which was considerably cheaper at the dealer back in 1967. The majority of GTO Convertibles you see today are equipped with a manual 4 speed transmission, which in itself is a nice feature to have, however we think in a convertible were cruising around is what you do most, the extra costs optioned TH400 automatic transmission is more desirable and wanted.
This cars great color combo with the parchment interior and convertible top makes it look fresh and clean. Having a light interior and top makes these cars so much more fun to drive, and they are much cooler in the summer heat than a scorching hot black interior were you can't even sit in with the top down. This interior is also spotless and gives a spacier and more of the luxe feel to this "Gentlemen's" Musclecar.
So finding a real deal, all original GTO convertible like the car we present to you here is rare these days. Their values are ricing and ricing because they are just not around anymore and demand for them is high as many nowadays understand they are just great cars to drive and might be one of the best handling and performing Convertibles the 60s had to offer.
With this great car being all correct and original, having a rare and beautiful color combination and high special options list, it's for sure the GTO to have if you are looking for a great muscle car that is not only fun to own and enjoy but also very collectible and an investment grade car. The fact that PTTM will make sure this car will be as perfect as possible when it comes for sale in their showroom just gives you that piece of mind in investing in a car of this magnitude.
In today's markets the value of a real deal and correct GTO convertible such as this car is, according to many auction reports and car specialists or appraisers like Haggerty, is around 125000,- or even more. However, that's way more than we will ask for the car you see here, which means it will leave room to grow for its future owner.
For our asking price you will buy one of the best in the market today, and it will be turn key ready to be driven and enjoyed. Finding a true and undamaged, untouched body and chassis, original paint and drivetrain, original interior and factory opted GTO like this one is, is becoming a needle in a haystack, so we hope you understand this car's magnitude and rarity.
