1967 Pontiac Firebird Pro touring wide body
Brand-new pro touring 1967 Pontiac Firebird with all custom build parts.
Pontiac 400 engine with alu heads & 450 HP and TH700R4 4 Speed Automatic Transmission! This car is completely built in our garage!
The Car
This pro touring/custom build Firebird started out from a 67 Pontiac Firebird with a 400 engine. The body received costume made adjustments like a custom front valance with city in it. We also installed a polyester hood with hood pins, on the hood you can also find a tachometer. That was an original option for a Firebird. The front and rear wheels arches were made wider. The car has a wide-body, and it is all made out of steel. The rear bumper of the car is welded to the body, and the rear valance is also custom-made and attached to the body. So that everything appears to be slicker. There is a custom-made spoiler attached to the rear fenders and the trunk lid, which is also made of steel. We also changed the lines of the trunk/hood and doors to be a perfect fit. Also, we removed all the bad spots this 50-year-old body had, and made sure it was a nice and clean body before it went to our paint shop. The car is finished in a Silver metallic paint with a math finish clear coat on top of it, and the black painted parts are side gloss finished.
The complete car went through a 3-year custom made build.
The Suspension & Wheels.
This car is build with a lot of pro touring suspension parts, we have build the rear suspension on a 4-link system. This means that the leaf springs the car original had, are removed and the 12-bolt rear axle is moving only up and down straight with the 4-bars it is attached to. The rear axle can't move left or right, and that's what made this rear suspension really strong. Normal old leaf springs can move left to right, what made the car very sloppy in the rear… Now it is really stiff and comfortable and direct. The rear axle is shortened because of the big wheels we installed. The big wheels needed some extra space, so the rear wheel arches are wider then stock. It has a wheel tube in the rear of the chassis, so the 20X12 wheels fitted the car and the body. In the front, we used 18x8 wheels. On the rear axle we installed double adjustable shocks, these shocks can be tuned to a perfect finish. The front suspensions received tubular A-arms that are stronger and lighter arms, with coil over shocks, that are also tunable, the front received also a very strong Hotchkiss suspension branded Swaybar! So the handling is very good at cornering. The Chassis also received a subframe connection to connect the front and rear together to make it stronger and stiffer, to handle the performance better.
Brakes
The car has received a very expensive Wilwood brake kit, in the rear we installed the big brake kit 14-inch rotors with parking brake options and in the front we installed 12-inch brake rotors with big pistons sized brake calipers. The brakes are power assisted.
Exhaust system
There is a custom-made stainless steel exhaust system installed. We made it from front to back with high grade steel, and then it was welded with very good precision. The system is also protected again by coating, we have also installed electric cut-outs to make some noise!
Steering
There is a new steering gear unit installed, that is attached to the new steering links and ball joints.
Fuel system
We made a complete custom fuel cell, to have the exhaust system and the big wheels fitted to this car, the original tank is too big. Therefore, we made a new one, the complete car is fueled by a Frangola braided hose fuel system, with pressure regulators and hoses ends.
Engine
Fresh and a complete new rebuild Pontiac 400 engine, with new pistons new piston rings new bearings & bored short-block, the camshaft is new with new push rods & lifters. The Timing Chain is upgraded and new, the oil pump is High Flow and new, there is a new set of Edelbrock Heads installed, with an RPM intake manifold, and a new Edelbrock Carburator. This engine is blueprinted and tested en build in our own facility with all the documents and video's and pictures of the build complete with the car. This engine is good enough to produce 450HP and around the 475FT lbs of Torque. The complete engine is freshly painted in a Pontiac Engine Paint Blue, the engine has only run on the test session bench and around 100 KM in the car, so you get a fresh engine in a fresh build car!
Transmission
We have installed a complete rebuild and upgraded TH700R4 Transmission, that is a 4 speed transmission, so you have extra gear, we call that an overdrive transmission, this car is good to use on the highways and for touring! It's made as a pro touring ride! The Transmission is also 100 km new, and is a costly transmission to build and buy. We also installed a new torq converter that matches the engine and transmission setup perfectly, we have built the complete drivetrain to match perfect.
Driveshaft
The driveshaft is made completely new out of a very strong steel tube, where we used the best Yoke ends and universal joints to make the connection between the rear axle and the transmission strong! It's also balanced by a balance shop.
Rear axle
We have used a shortened 12 bolt GM rear axle tube, and then ordered two Moser Axles with new Bearings and Studs to fit the Custom wheels. The center section is a complete build by Moser and is of course a differential with a Sper, and a new rear axle Ratio. The ratio is chosen to have a fast 0-100KMH setup and also a nice cruising speed, like we said earlier we have built the complete drivetrain and make sure all matches together.
The complete drivetrain is build very strong, so you can really have some fun with this car, and we have made sure you don't have to be scared to brake.
